Wildlife
La Borde Basse is set on a gentle hillside in unspoilt countryside covered in box, juniper, wild honeysuckle and the small oak trees (quercus) from which the local area of Quercy gets its name. There are nine acres of garden, meadow orchard and woodland with wonderful views over the valley of the Grande Barguelonne.
Over the years many of our visitors have remarked on the rich variety of wild flowers and animals they have seen at La Borde Basse. These have included various rare species of wild orchid and hellebore, and many birds including golden orioles. bee-eaters and various treecreepers. You will see a wonderful array of butterflies, and often hares, lizards, deer and if you’re really lucky a member of our resident red squirrel family.
We are grateful to one particular family for the following pictures from a wide selection taken at La Borde Basse.
